Krav Maga
Krav Maga is an Israeli martial art that involves grappling, wrestling and striking techniques. It is known for teaching these techniques in real-life situations, in an often quite brutal fashion. It is used by Israeli Defensive Forces, by both normal and Special Forces.
The art is centered around the idea of finishing a fight as quickly as possible, so strikes and attacks are focused on the most vulnerable parts of the body, or the nearest.
Learning Krav Maga teaches you how to execute strikes such as kicks, elbow strikes, punches etc. You are also taught defenses against take-downs, grabs, and many other attacks.
Origins
The founder of Krav Maga was Imi Sde-Or, a Hungarian who grew up in Slovakia. Imi started teaching fighting techniques to the Israeli military in the 1940s, and the art and its popularity grew from there. Today it is taught all over the world.
Krav Maga translates from Hebrew as “hand-to-hand combat”.
